Pssst. Want a good deal on a German luxury car? Then go shopping in the final few months of this year, because there will be deals aplenty.

That is the message from the managing director of BMW Australia, Phil Horton, as he prepares for a luxury-car sales battle he predicts will ''go down to the wire''.

Snip....

For its part, BMW has gained support in its battle from the very top of the company. The global sales and marketing boss for BMW, Ian Robertson, has come good on a promise to secure extra volume of the popular new second-generation X3.

Not only will extra X3s flow from BMW's South Carolina factory but so will a price-leader version powered by a new 135kW 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.

The X3 xDrive 20i will be equipped at the same level as the turbo-diesel X3 xDrive 20d (from $62,200 plus on-road and dealer costs) but will be about $2000 cheaper when it arrives in December.
