The FRM will store a short circuit if the fixture has been out for 50+ ignition cycles as well. It does not actually have to be a short circuit.
The short circuit counter has to be reset via Tool32. An FRM1 CAN be reset. I don't care what anyone else says. I just did a reset on a 2007 335 FRM1 this weekend at Bimmerfest. It's possible.
