My theory when buying a new car is that it has to have manufacturer AND dealer support....so, a combination of ALL of the following:

Cheap finance (no more than 5-6% APR)
5-10% manufacturer supported deposit contribution
5-10% dealer contribution

It won't remove the depreciation (far from it) but it will greatly reduce the hit, especially if you buy a brand that holds it's value better than others (so all the German makes basically). If it's on a heavier depreciating brand then double the percentages above!

I think Peters suggested £20k is a very cheeky bid (no harm in trying though) but realistically, the price will end up being low-mid £20k's at best if you walk in (obviously) ready to do a deal.
