I was thinking about the 50mm f/1.8, Nathan. I realise the f/1.4 is about triple the price of the f/1.8. However, if it's going to be a lens I'll be making long term use of, then I'd rather spend more & go for the 50mm f/1.4.
A 50mm f/1.2 L would be 'nice', but I think it's just a little excessive for me as a beginner.
Although it's difficult to make a direct comparison between shots, the first shot is one taken with the f/1.8 II lens with a 40D & the second is taken with the f/1.4 lens with a 5D: (both shots are from the
