I am bewildered as to why people spend £40k odd on diesel convertibles. It's not like they need the petrol money when the car is so expensive in the first place.

Agree entirely!! Why on earth would anyone buy a diesel convertible...
But we are performance petrol heads mate, hence why we don't have heavy convertibles..
Generally speaking a diesel convertible driver was the "looks" and an economic motor.. That is it.
