Ever wonder why you get so many flats in the US? Why are the roads littered with nails??? My guess is the careless disposal/transportation of rubbish removed from construction projects, crap just dumped in the back of a pickup which works its way out on a dump run....I had my front window smashed one day from a half-pound rock that fell off a bulldozer (that was filthy - had just come off a muddy site) that the idiot just drove up onto a open flatbed....never ceases to amaze me the idiocy you see out on the highways...
