I had this same problem last October, the dealer as part of the warranty finished replacing two of the three fuel pumps, so far no recurring problem. The fault was down to contaminates in the fuel, the pumps keep blowing the fuse. The dealer do not know if it was due to bad fuel or evaporated fuel which had created sediment since the manufacture date and the date of import in to the UK Build May, delivery Sept. Was told that BMW/Alpina do not put much fuel in before arriving at the dealership.

Sounds to me that in your case it was sediment in the fuel. Had you nearly empted the fuel tank before refueling or do you refill when its a quarter still full?
