You'll usually be able to tell just by driving through where the ghetto is. Outside of that it's not too bad.
Weather is nice, winters can be brutal sometimes but has been mild lately. Lots to do since we're a short drive/train ride into NYC or CT. Nightlife is so-so but that's what the city is for  Good driving roads nearby, check out Bear Mtn, Storm King Hwy, Hawks Nest, and a bunch of others.
