I had a pump fail in my 1er as well as the brake squeel that lasted for two years before I finally lost my shit at the dealer and they changed them. Both problems were completely fixed after the initial failure. You were an early adopter which can be problematic for
any car. I haven't had any major issues but I've only had it for six months. There are threads about water pump failures but it doesn't seem as common as our HPFP problems. Truth be told, if you want solid reliability, you should really go Japanese. German cars are relatively high maintenance.
