Yea, I guess it does take time to get used to. For me, I got acquantainted to my car immediately as I drove a BMW SUV in the past so everything was "as-expected"

The main purpose of the heavier steering is to give you tighter and more precise turn. Being a sports sedan, you can expect that braking and transmission will be a bit rougher as compared to a normally family sedan like the Civic. I cant really comment on the interior room but they are roughly the same size (compact sedans).

I'm sure that once you get used to it, you'll enjoy your car a lot more
