Unfortunately maintaining an independent nuclear capability is a very expensive business but IMHO it is essential. We live in a world full of nutters and you never know what is around the corner as regards war. Twenty five years ago it was unimaginable to think of where we are fighting today. Saddam was an ally! (Yes I know that we are no longer in Iraq)
The good thing is that despite the missiles being American it should provide a lot of British manufacturing jobs building the submarines. ( or Bombers as we call them in the trade)
