As far as on the field rules - not necessarily. Positioning of fielders can vary depending on wind, type of pitcher, batter propensities, fielder capabilities. At any point on the field you have to know before the pitch where you are going with the ball depending on where and what type ball in play.
To me, that falls under an intuitive strategy by the player. I know I would position myself given the above information, but would continue to move and adjust even while the pitch was moving. That was based purely on gut feeling. But none of that translates to me as a spectator now.
