Glad you got it fixed. As for not using all 3 at once, that is pretty much rubbish. You can use all three at once, you just have to make sure you don't overload the circuit. You have a nominal 12V system with a 20 AMP fuse, yielding a maximum power rating of 12x20=240W. So long as the 3 things you are powering consume less than 240W combined, you won't blow the circuit.
The typical portable DVD player will consume 20W to 30W, the typical cell phone charger between 5W and 10W. An iPod is somewhere around 3W (USB devices are typically limited to 500mA at 5.2V max, or roughly 3W.) So you could charge your phone, your iPod and run a portable DVD player all at the same time.
