I wish I had some advice for you. When it comes to cars, Korea is just a whole different ball game than US. Importing parts from NA just doesn't make much sense to me that seems unnecessary and the "fake" wheels thing would have made it worse thing makes all this sound fishy and makes me believe the shop is pulling your chain in some way or another. IMO fake wheels could have broken and absorbed some of the impact unlike a sturdy "real" wheel. My advice would be get a second opinion! but again, I know little about South Korean auto business. I know it sucks without your car but take your time don't make quick decisions. Investigate. You can take that to the bank.
