I have the HDR-SR1 and had to wait a long time until software packages released updates to support M2TS.

Here's one solutions.

I use Sony Vegas. Does a good job, but requires a good proc and ram. Others use Adobe Premiere. Neither solutions is free, unfortunately. You could also use the Sony software bundled with it to convert the AVCHD to an SD video.
