I have spent ages working this out and beleive I have the answer.
ALL Nav fitted 3 Series built after September 2008 have the new iDrive. This is easy with Saloon and Touring, as if its LCI, it has new iDrive. However there must have been a load of E92's kicking around in stock because almost none of the 58 plate ones have the new idrive, meaning they were built prior to Sep 08. There are a few but they are very rare. You need to go as far as 09 plate to 'guarantee' the new iDrive.
