There is no temp gauge on any e9x's or e6x's
Rumour is that the 3.0i N52 engine has very erratic temperatures and BMW felt people would be concerned of the temp fluctuated too much.
The e60's do have illuminated dashes near the redline which switch off as the engine warms. These effectively reduce the 'visual' redline on a cold engine.
E90's don't get this.
As to oil level - the petrol engines check this themselves - no dipstick.
