lets say your tire has an original tread depth of 10/32nds, your tire measures 8/32nds. min tread depth is 2/32nds.
subtract the min tread depth from the current tread depth. 6/32nds
you can ignore the 32nds since they're all the same unit
6/10= 60% useable tread life.
however, if you're expressing it in terms of % tread (not tread life) left, just divide current tread depth by original tread depth 8/10=80% tread left.
most used tire sales i've seen speak of the tread left, not useable tread life.
the new tire tread depth includes the 2/32nd min tread depth. a new 10/32nd tire really only has 8/32nds of useable tread depth.
