I might recommend removing the front sway bar if your steering rack is hitting this. I have the M3 front sway so I don't know how it would compare to standard ones but removing it completely only takes about 15 min and I found the space it buys to be invaluable. You can still only get 1 hand at a time up there but having a place to shine a light helps a lot.

If you've never removed it before be sure to re torque it to 15-1/2 ft lbs putting pit back on
