GM could benefit of this deal, because BMW diesel engines are powerful, smooth, "clean" and the 520d has an combined fuel economy of 56 Mpg; not bad for an executive saloon that still accelerates from 0-62 mph in 8.6 seconds.

The current diesel engines used by GM, which are supplied by VM Motori, are very coarse, not economical and they have abysmal CO2 ratings.
