There's no chance of you scratching the paint by removing the ///M badge, if you follow the usual instructions on here of using floss and then gently teasing off the sticky residue.

I doubt that 70% of BMW “owners” would even notice, never mind care. You may well find 70% BMW forum members (enthusiasts) would vote yes, but many of those votes would be driven by peer pressure. Does it really matter? Do whatever you want, it’s your car, but if you make it look ridiculous and then post pictures on here prepare to be flamed ...
