The 320i is very prone to oil leak from the valvertronic servo motor which is located towards the back of the engine. I had that replaced under warranty but the occasional burnt oil smell still came through every now and then. They replaced the tappet cover gasket 2 times as they could see where the oil was bleeding through and in the end also had to replace the tappet cover as they discovered it had a very small crack which was actually the reason for the oil seepage. All done just 1 month before warranty finished. I still have the 320 and 3 months later, no more oil smells [touch wood].

The thing that's on the back of the engine causing oil leak in 320i is the vacuum pump. Valvertronic motor is the one sitting on top of the rocker cover. It does not leak oil.
