Im not really a fan of the MPV types, I only went for the Quashqai because I like the look of them and their cheap to lease.
£12k(ish) budget, not a fan of the X5, so that doesn't get a look in.

I'd go for the Merc personally - my father in law has one and it is really refined and much better then the model it replaced (he had that also).
Decent fuel economy, big boot (no 7 seat option) and pretty grunty with that engine
