Wouldn't revs per mile and diameter essentially be getting at the same informaiton? Tirerack measures to tenths of an inch on their diamters, but I would think RPM is a more detailed number since it incorporates the diameter of the tire over the course of a mile. This is why you'll see tires that have the same diameter in terms of inches have different RPM.
Gary's much more knowledgable than me on tires so maybe there's other information I'm not considering.
