How easy is to to see what make of fuel pump is installed (asks one who rarely lifts the bonnet!)

Basically from the evidence seen so far it's the new direct injection petrol engines, which means E90/91 335i and all petrol E92/93 (320i/325i/330i/335i).

The problem is with the high pressure pump in the engine bay. There is a low pressure pump in the rear of the car like normal to get the fuel to the engine. But then there is a high pressure pump to get the 2000 atmospheres or something daft for the direct injection of the fuel. It is this second pump that is failing. As yet the E90/91 don't have the smaller capacity direct injection engines so are free of the problem on all but the 335i.

There seems to be all sorts of crap and rumours flying about new parts and when and where they are being / will be fitted. Do a little and you'll get loads of hits.

At the moment it still seems like a lottery, so good luck to you all.
