Peter Brock - King of the Mountain

Peter Brock was (arguably) Australia's most famous and successful motor racing driver in the modern era.

9 times Bathurst 1000 winner
3 times Australian Touring Car Champion
Triple Crown winner (Sandown, Bathurst and touring car championship)
Bathurst 24 Hour winner

His battles on the racetracks against Australian/Canadian Ford driver Allan Moffat in the 70's and Queenslander Ford driver Dick Johnson in the 80's split this country down the middle - in monday morning conversations you were either "Holden" or "Ford".

He was also instrumental in producing (again arguably) Australia's finest high-performance road vehicles in the 80's and early 90's. The "Peter Brock" Holden specials were homologated Holden Commodore road cars modified by his Holden Dealer Racing Team (HDT) operation in Melbourne.

These type of vehicles went on to become the factory backed HSV (Holden Special Vehicles - with GM 6.0L LS2 307kW V8's) we see on Austalian roads and exported overseas today.

"Our" Peter Brock did have a connection with the American Peter Brock - the vehicle he was killed in yesterday's Targa West Rally in Western Australia was a Daytona Coupe, built by the US Peter Brock.

Most Australians are in shock this weekend with now two famous Australians killed in the space of a week - Steve Irwin (the Crocodile Hunter) and now Peter Brock (King of the Mountain and motor racing legend).
