Cooper SD is only £30 per year to tax so wouldn't just dismiss it on the basis it isn't cheap to run. However in your case it would attract congestion charge therefore that would change the picture.
Never tried a Cooper S in Automatic ...... seems a rather strange concept but possibly nice, just would worry about selling it on.
