It depends on where you live and how much you hate riding in coach. I live on the west coast and it's 11-12 hours to/from Munich. I HATE it so much I take a sleep aid to get through half of it. Plus the time change messes me up.
For me, it's not worth it unless I'm going to vacation in Europe. But for others, it's worth it to pick up the car, drive it on the autobahns, see Germany, drop it off, head back home and save some money.
