Thats a significant number of units. BMW has invested so much in parts, time, storage for such a vast number, I am guessing they are very confident with this new pump. This might be the fix we are waiting for.
BMW is has historically been a very top end engineering company. It should only be a matter of time before they "engineer" a way out of this fuel pump fiasco
