Well, I think I've had my fill of loud exhausts just for the sake of it! That is why I have steered away from things like the Eissenmann and Supersprint 'Race' versions.
I don't feel sound clips on YouTube ever capture the true exhaust note of most cars - impossible with poor built-in mics on the camcorders. From my experience with Supersprint on both E36 M3 and E46 M3s, the systems took the cars from just having an unexciting note on the E36 and a raspy note on the E46 to a very deep, distinctive and 'sporty' note WITHOUT being offensively loud. And no drone or anything like that. In both cases, I mostly gave up the sound system and just had the roof open and windows down practically all the time! Whether it's the same with the N54, I guess I'll find out when I get there!
Put it this way - a note that would make you turn around and look because it sounded great rather than have the car pass by unnoticed ...
But in the end, what is a great exhaust note for one person is not to another!
