Upsets with compressors can cause the shaft to spin backwards, so if anything. one wants to have a bearing/shaft design that can tolerate reverse rotation, but compressor and turbine wheel design has nothing to do with it.

Maybe folks should wonder why the proven and very well experienced manufacturers are not doing this. Are they really stupid?
