using a mitt is generally safer than a sponge that can drag grit around the surface. however, if your pre wash stage is good all that should be left is a mild traffic film. I do use a sponge, albeit a z y m o l sponge but only dab it across the surface to absorb the grime. In this way I never wipe anything across the surface so minimise the chance of causing swirling. It is however quite nerdy so you take your choices......
