He did give up the position to Vettel but still there is too little risk in ignoring the track limits. What would happen if you drove like that and there was no run-off? Only one position lost? Hardly.

It's not Alonso's fault it's the rules and he showed class by giving up a position to Vettel. It's the rules that is not acting to deter using the run-off as much as it should. It should by as deterant as getting stuck in a sand pit.
