If I'm not mistaken, in the E90 there is no clutch on the A/C compressor, it's designed to run all the time. It has variable output and that is how it regulates cooling amount. When A/C is not needed output is set to near zero. This also keeps the compressor oil circulated in the system keeping seals happy.
