I believe that as part of the Continental braking system, hill assist would never be deliberately switched off unless it has a problem. In my opinion BMW would cite safety issue as a reason for not disabling a fully functioning syatem.

I find it a bit of a novelty that although it is really not helpful (against rolling back) in my car being the Steptronic, it would be great for manual transmission drivers, especially if you have someone close behind you as an example.
