There was a fallen limb blocking the driveway gate that leads to the garage. In the time it would have taken us to move the limb we may have both been killed by softball-sized hail.
Also, the hail went from marble-sized to grapefruit-sized in a matter of seconds, so the damage was already done by that point anyway. Believe me, I considered all options as quickly as I could, including running upstairs and pulling the mattresses off the beds, and paying my neighbors $1000 to let me use their garage. But alas, it was too late for any of this. I just had to stand on the porch and watch it happen.
