It shouldn't really put you off buying a 335i in Europe as it doesn't seem to be that common an issue here. I have only heard of a couple that have had theirs replaced once, so nowhere near the pain that the US guys have felt on this issue. From them it sounds more like an exception if you haven't had it replaced a number of times.
