I think that depends on how good the clutch is, of all the Audi's and VW's I've owned, only the MK5 GTi had a nice manual box and clutch set-up. All the others Porsche included were pretty poor IMO.

that really surprises me, thought Porsche had a very good reputation for their manual set up?
Ive never had the pleasure myself but going from reviews etc....
I think the pleasure I get from manual downshifts, the challenge of learning the car with rev matching etc.
Now dont get me wrong if I had more than one car, I could live with an auto or dual clutch for commuting but for a performance car, it just seems part of the fun for me.
I had a demo GTI '08 plate for a few days and that had fantastic set up. But the BMW snatchy clutch to shame
To go back on topic, if I bought an S5 or similar car, I think I would rather a manual. Plus living in london, how the hell can you parallel park a semi auto
