I tried painting my finishing rods on the front bumper but it didnt turn out as smooth as I expected..My guess is that some dust setteled on it while it was drying after each coat which lead to a "unfinished" surface

Any tips ?
Did you sand the rods? If not then it wasn't smooth to start with. Yes dust can settle on the surface which is why painting indoors helps.
