I actually left the strut attached at the hub. I broke things loose at the top of the strut, disconnect the sway bar endlink and articulated the top of the strut outside the fender. Just allowed the hub, caliper etc to sag to make enough room to clear the fender. To be honest though I didn't look to see how the strut attached so maybe I loosened something without knowing it. All appeared to be tight. I will take the wheel off this weekend and take a look.
