OK Here is a review of the OBD port fix provided by the independent garage given by Mart1000 earlier in this thread an which I have now had fitted to my car. You can look earlier in the thread for the garage and I'm not going to describe exactly what they did since the same riff-raff stealing BMWs may also be reading this thread.
Cost: £90
What did they do: Disable the OBD port but provide a means to re-enable it.
How long: Took about 1 hour
When can they do it: Only Monday-Friday
How secure: Reasonable; anyone attempting to steal the car by hacking a key/OBD port would have to spend some time working out what is going on
Any affect on car: None that I can see, but the definitive answer will be when it goes back to BMW dealer for the next service and BMW try to re-enable the OBD port to read it. The independent garage did say they disabled the port for the theft fix, then re-enabled it and were able to read from it, but I did not visually verify this myself so I'll have to take their word for it.
Visual asthetics: Looks the same as before.
