Did this today.
I followed OPs method, just removed MAF and sandpapered the glue down. I didn't get it down as far as a dremel but all debris was gone. Washed with dish soap and water and put in a K&N.
Drove to the gym and WOT a couple times as well as holding her at 4k for a short period of time just to see if I noticed anything.
No difference so far but I feel like I hear a "wosh" sound when I let off gas. Maybe I just never noticed before. Hopefully I installed right.
The hardest part for me was the housing that lead to engine. Mine would not snap into place. I finally grabbed some of the ridges further back and pressed. That did it.
Dunno if it does anything, I'm worried I left a little debris or water drop in the housing that may get I to the engine. I was careful but I'm paranoid.
Worth an hour and about 50-100 buck depending on what parts and tools you have just to mess around if your into that.
