This is not to excuse this sort of behaviour (I've also suffered a few very annoying door dings), but the bodywork on the e9*'s is REALLY thin, so the amount of force required to leave a dent is actually very slight.
I've stopped being paranoid about it now my car is 18 months old, but the 1st 6 months were pretty stressful.
