Not saying that you're wrong BUT...I CAN see how the shocks could look like that with minimal miles on them. They can get roughed up quick. Again not taking his side...that sux...just saying..don't worry they might still have low miles. And even 10000 isn't bad on these shocks.

With that said, I went through a horror with mine. The bottom nut that was on my OEM shock (ONLY the bottom ones oddly enough) was the wrong size and I ended up stripping my threads pretty bad.

Just take your time and find a reputable machine shop and get them re-threaded with smaller threads. That's what I ended up doing after trying other shit and it worked out great...

Seeing more and more of these on here lately it seems...can't believe (well, I can) there are so many idiots in this world...
