My mileage slowly increased during the first 700 miles. When I passed the break-in period and started going heavier on the throttle it dropped like a rock.

Living in an urban area like Southern California makes it tough to get good mileage. When you accelerate from a stop light the MPG needle goes all the way down. As soon as you get up to cruising speed and the needle starts coming up its time to stop again. I can’t get above 21mpg unless I can get some cruising time between stops.

Unless the poor mileage is being caused by a system malfunction, you just need to pay the price and smile. I don’t think anybody bought their BMW to save money.
