You can play with the degree of your S-curve and, once you find it to your liking, save it as a preset. I usually add a little Contrast and some Vibrancy, depending on the subject.

I find it particularly important on scenic photography. Apply your S-curve, then use the Contrast slider to deal a little with haze. Also, here's where keeping a UV filter on the lens actually pays a dividend.
