1 to 2 shifts are sometimes a bit notchy, but have not experienced any grinding. I have the same experience as listed here. Never any grinding at all, but first is sometimes difficult to engage from a stop after a cold start. I generally give a little gas in neutral, wait for rpms to drop, then re-engage. Works every time.
