Not wishing to sound picky or like too much of a nerd but the escort cossie wasn't based on the escort, but the sierra sapphire cosworth that preceeded it - if you line an Escort Cossie up against a regular Escort you'll see the wheelbase, length and width etc are totally different, it wasn't just a case of flaring the arches of the standard car.

This was because the Escort was obviously engineered as a fwd car, and it was more cost effective to stretch the escort body shape (or something that closely resembled it) over a saph chassis than it was re-engineer the Escort for 4WD/RWD applications.
