Pure Turbos N55 single turbo upgrade

http://www.pureturbos.com/store/bmw-...o-upgrade.html

My buddy linked this to me today, first time I've head anything about it but it looks promising!

EDIT- Results are in, people!

Shop car:
(WHP, MUSTANG DYNO, V2 turbo with slight modifications over the V1, same price)

91 pump
map 2
went from 297whp to 342whp (at same boost levels)

297whp was 72 degree ambient
342whp was 88 degree ambient

Customer car (Darkhold):
(WHP, V1 turbo)

Hi Guys,

As promised some dyno results. Let me start by saying that I am impressed with the results. The car pulls much stronger towards 6500 rpm. And the difference with stock turbo with meth on map3 with 40 meth adder is huge.

Allthough the car was not making the same boost as it makes consistently on the street and jb4 target was not doing what I set it to (I guess heat issue) the best result was 446 bhp and 647nm. So the max boost dyno was actually not reaching the target. Hence my daily boost map is close to the result of the max boost map. I also dynoed on 15 psi boost map for reference and while midrange is about 20/30 bhp less, topend is still pretty strong.

Baseline vs. Map 3(?) vs. max boost:

Compare between max boost, daily map and lower boost runs:

JB4 logs of the above runs:
MAX

Daily

15 psi

And for reference the csv's as well:
http://users.telenet.be/darkhold/pure_daily.csv
http://users.telenet.be/darkhold/pure_max.csv
http://users.telenet.be/darkhold/pure_15psi.csv
As you can see the car was not quite matching the high boost map. However on the street it can match these boost levels consistently. So maybe this means a few more bhp real world

Compare between max boost, stock map3 40 meth adder and stock:

Unfortunately the stock map3 was not till redline but as you can see bhp goes downhill after 5600 rpm.
JB4 log of the map3 run:

And the csv:
http://users.telenet.be/darkhold/stock_map3.csv

Overall I couldnt be happier with the result. Comparing stock, map3 meth and the pure turbo there really is a big difference.

Any questions ---> shoot

BMS car
(WHP, V1, I can't find a list of mods but I'm guessing it's FBO + E40) :

Customer car (bmw0besssion):
(WHP, V2, 2011 N55 DCT 135i FBO, Inline 255, 6 gallones e85, 6 gallons 91 Octane (I know sucks), Meth Boost Juice. Map 6 run targeting 19psi. IAT air temps were around 100.)

Comments:
The new dyno was done at 3k rpm because we were having timing issues under 3k rpm which we figured out later

Customer car (danielescobarg):

Base run was done back in 2012, with a pre ISO firmware. Very shaky, also because dyno is a Dyna pack, and like most non-inertial dynos, peaks are very noticeable.

Also, this was done at 5000 ft, and graphs are SAE corrected with 1.21 CF. Deltas are more important that peaks.

Car is a 2012 135 6MT. mods are: BMS 3.5 inch dp, corsa catback, AA FMIC, BMS meth kit and BMS intake.

I apologize in advance for the confusion of the runs, we so many that colors got screwed so it’s a bit hard to read.

Base line FBO on map 3 is the Solid green line. I don’t recall what boost was running back then since map 3 adjust boost of meth flow. The graph below the baseline is against the car when was stock (dotter red one) the other green and blue dotted were stage 1 JB4

So, stock: 290 WHP and 390 WTQ
FBO stock turbo map 3 meth: 349.5 and 489,5 WTQ

The same FBO runs of the 349.5/489.5 is the baseline on the Pure runs (today) this is the dashed green line (lowest one)

On todays runs, we did several, 10 IIRC. But I will only show best of the 3 set-ups we tried.

First one (solid green) was on pump gas (90 oct) and meth. Boost targets were 14 PSI until 3000, from 3000 to 5500 16.5 and from 5500 to 6500 15 and 14.5. Back when I was doing logs I found that since meth was supplementing so much of the fueling, boost could not be raised before ~3500 or severe ign retard would occur.

This run was: ~400 WHP and 480 WTQ.
Log of Run:

Second one is dotted green. Pump gas also + meth. But this time tried to max the turbo from 3500 on. 20 PSI target till 6500. This had some ign retard, and would not be confortable using it on a day to day. Meth simply cant supplement the needed octane.

This run was: 422 WHP and 500 WTQ
Log of Run:

Last run, we put in 104 octane gas. Mixture was about ~85% race fuel 15% pump. Effective octane of 99 octane or so. This time had the boost targets in 20 PSI from 2000 til redline.

This run was: 440 WHP and 568 WTQ.
Log of Run:

Pure STG1 (various boost levels and fueling) vs Stock Turbo

overall very satisfied with the results.

Money shot right here

I think a backend flash will help a lot with AFR, since they are very lean in the mid range. Top end is ok I guess. That’s the next step, luckily its available for this DME.

Customer car (turbo_chris):
(Dynojet, WHP, E50, Pure Stage 1, JB4 + FF wires, JB4 backend flash, Walbro 255, AA FMIC, VRSF DP, VRSF CP)

Running on map 6 at 20psi. Looks like the clutch is slipping. I installed the backend flash right before hitting the dyno and it's pushing the clutch over the limit. I'm thinking about going with the 550i clutch upgrade and see if it will handle the torque. I had my laptop setup and was datalogging, but my friend turned the car off and I lost the logs

I'm going to do some datalogging if the clutch isn't toast and send it in to Terry to see if there is room for improvement over the standard backend flash.
