Little do they know that half (maybe more?) of the cars here are bought used and cost less than brand new common cars like Toyota camries or minivans
The relationship between car brand and income is tenuous at best. You don't know who bought new vs used. You don't know who's living beyond his or her means and who isn't. There's just a really poor correlation.
Edit: And for that matter, on the flip side of things there's plenty of data suggesting that common cars like camries or Ford trucks are among the most popular with somewhat rich people ($5M+ in liquid assets).
